beyrer baseball trip- part 6 (detroit)
The very last part of the baseball trip. I was so happy to be done, as I’m sure you could imagine!
Uncle Peter got us all tickets to the games (thanks Pete!!) and the seats were really good. The boys were all pumped up going to a game together.
Maureen and I left in the 2nd or 3rd inning (I don’t know- does it matter?) to take the littles to the carousel and ferris wheel. When we came back it was only the 5th inning. How is that possible??
The kids enjoyed the rides a bunch and it is a nice stadium. What Mickey Mouse has to do with the Detroit Tigers, I’m not exactly sure. But it was nice to see a friendly face.
Lots of pictures of our friends who we miss dearly.
Winding down…
And fireworks night. It started to rain just as the fireworks were starting. Good thing it held off that long.
Thanks for a great time, Z family! We miss you tons again.
And I’m happy to say….THE END. (of the baseball trip- always more pictures coming of other stuff).

beyrer baseball trip- part 5 (michigan friends + a mini session)
So glad we included Michigan on this trip so we could see our good friends (and Jack & Patrick’s BEST friend) who moved there 6 years ago. It’s so great seeing them fall immediately back into the groove of being friends within seconds of arriving.
They treated us to a nice (real food/nonbaseball park) meal for dinner (thank you!), the boys played some backyard baseball, Timmy and Katie played together, and the kids all watched A Christmas Story before bed.
The next day they took us over to their pool for a swim. The pool was great and all the boys had a blast. The slide was definitely a favorite (even though Timmy dosen’t look like he’s enjoying it, he did!) From there we went to the Tigers game (pictures on that in tommorrow’s post).
We even squished in a very mini-session for Maureen’s good friend and neighbor and her gorgeous kids. I didn’t have my favorite lenses with me, so the pictures aren’t quite up to the usual standards, sorry. But I hope you like the few that I got, J. The baby’s hair sticks straight up, no matter what they do with it. Too cute!! To view all of the images, please click HERE.
Timmy and Katie slept in her room on the floor in sleeping bags, while all the boys (Connor & Spencer, Jack & Patrick) slept on the bunk beds and aerobeds in Spencer’s room. John and I took over Connor’s room (thanks, dude!). Everyone was up waaaaay late- adults included. But you gotta get in the visit and laughs while you can!
Detroit Tigers game coming up next…

beyrer baseball trip- part 4 (cleveland sights)
This was really the only part of the trip (other than visiting with our friends in Michigan) that I was remotely looking forward to.
A little more driving was needed to make it to our destinations for the day.
I found out that the house that was Ralphie’s in the movie A Christmas Story (a favorite of mine which I usually watch for the full 24hrs that it’s on TV on Christmas Eve) was actually located in Cleveland, and that there was a museum, gift shop, and house tours- I was SO in!
We watched the movie in the car about 5 times on the trip to get ready for the house! The boys really loved it (and we watched it another 6 times after seeing the house) and John and I were laughing from the front seats.
A little walk around the museum while we waited for our turn for the house tour. This guy was in the movie as the delivery man who brings in the ‘major award’ in the FRAGILE crate. He lives down the street from the house and was the boys on set guardian while they were filming in Clevland. He had lots of good stories to tell.
Pictures from the house and museum, with some of my most favorite quotes from the movie.
“Ralphie, I can’t get up!” or “I can’t put my arms down! Oh, you’ll put your arms down when you get to school”. or even “Getting ready to go to school was like getting ready for extended deep-sea diving. ”
“He looks like a deranged Easter bunny!”
“Oh! The theme I’ve been waiting for all my life. Listen to this sentence: “A Red Ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock, and this thing which tells time”. Poetry. Sheer poetry, Ralph! An A+ + + +!”
“In the heat of battle my father wove a tapestry of obscenities that as far as we know is still hanging in space over Lake Michigan”
“Now, I had heard that word at least ten times a day from my old man. He worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium; a master.”
“Only one thing in the world could’ve dragged me away from the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window.”
“Would you look at that? Would you look at THAT? What is it? It’s a leg! But what is it? Well, it’s… A leg, you know, like a statue. Statue? Yeah, statue. Yeah, statue. Ralphie! My mother was trying to insinuate herself between us and the statue.”
“Fra-gee-lay! Must be Italian. I think it says Fragile, dear.”
“Sons of bitches! Bumpuses!”
“Not a finga”
“Randy? What’s wrong? Whatcha cryin’ for? Daddy’s gonna kill Ralphie!”
“Meatloaf, smeatloaf, double-beatloaf. I hate meatloaf.” (Timmys favorite line. Cracks him up every time.)
“Be sure to drink your Ovaltine. Ovaltine? A crummy commercial? Son of a bitch!”
Not only did we purchase a Tshirt that says ‘Oh, Fuuuuudggee”, a bar of Lifebuoy soap, a Little Orphan Annie Decoder Pin, but also a leg lamp for our very own. Can’t wait to light that baby up in the front window!! Cause it is a Major Award, afterall.
We also visited the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, and I wasn’t overly impressed. It was okay, but it was mostly about the costumes it seemed. And, there were no pictures allowed except for on the main floor where there wasn’t much in the way of displays anyway. Uch.
Onward to Michigan to see our friends and go to the Tigers game…

beyrer baseball trip 09- part 3 (cleveland)
By this point of the trip, this summed up exactly how I was feeling.
All I could think when seeing the sign was..’you got that right, buddy’.
Left Cincinnati for the very exciting drive to Clevland to see the Indians.
Made it close time wise to get to the game (again). As we were walking from the hotel to the park (for about 3 blocks) I noticed a sushi restaurant across the street from the hotel. I debated for a while if sushi in Clevland would be a good idea or not, until my good friend Nate stepped in via facebook and decided for me that it was not in my best intrest to eat sushi (or anything else for that matter) in Cleveland. He phrased it slightly more harshly than that however.
We made it to our seats (good seats again) just to be moved shortly thereafter. A sheet of glass in the restaurant above us was broken on the top and the whole sheet was all spiderwebbed with cracks. So instead of taking the chance that their fans would be sliced to ribbons by the glass should it happen to fall, we were moved over a section to slightly better seats.
There were some interesting folks at the game. Like sideburns here for instance.
John referred to some of them as “Eminem’s white trash uncles that even he would be embarrassed of”. We witnessed a number of people being ejected from the game- oh, they were real class acts. A girl wearing clothes that she had no business wearing fighting with some tattooed scary unbathed guys behind her. She went first, and they got removed shortly thereafter. Well, at least it was something other than baseball for me to watch.
The boys took some pictures too with the little camera.
And they all had a great time. And I had a hershey bar for dinner back at the hotel. I figured that was safe.

beyrer baseball trip 09- part 2 (cincinnati)
Onward.
Left Pittsburgh, drove thru tons of nothingness. Did see two good signs (one of which to follow in part 3) and the other was for Gumby’s Beer & Cigarette World. No picture though cause I couldn’t get the camera out fast enough (when there’s nothing but nothing to look at for hours driving, there’s no point keeping the camera out) so the Gumby’s sign will have to live on in memory only.
Stopped to see Merle and Earl in W. Virginia with mullets and not a whole lot of teeth at the Gas n Go. Did go to a cool 1950’s McDonalds with a nice old BelAir in the middle. Made the boys take pictures there- Jack was not terribly pleased. But that was the agreement so he had to suck it up. But Patrick was great and I got a nice one of him.
Made it to Cincinnati, checked into the hotel which was really nice but had this tube/fountain thing in the lobby. Can you say Augustus Gloop?
Walked over to the stadium for the next game. It looked like rain (omg, are you kidding? Baseball while sitting in the rain? Can I go home now please?) so I left the good camera at the hotel and just took the point & shoot, so the picture quality isn’t as good, sorry.
Passed some cool chillipeppers planted along the sidewalk on the way. As John was on line to buy tickets, a really nice lady came up and just GAVE us 4 tickets for seats behind home plate. How nice! Timmy proceeded to get really sick at the game (thank goodness we were just feet from the family bathroom), but it only happened once so that’s something. I didn’t feel great either. Sickness and baseball- bonus!
There was a build A bear in the park (clever) so Timmy got 2 new guys this time. And after being such a trooper about being sick, he deserved 100 guys!
The Cubs won but that seemed like it was okay with everyone at the park because everyone was rooting for the Cubs instead of the Reds. That didn’t seem nice to me at all. Whatever- the game was over.
