beyrer baseball trip 09- part I (pittsburgh)
John has a dream to bring the boys to a game at every single MLB park in the country. The big boys were down 12 stadiums already before this trip (Boston Red Sox, CitiField/Shea Mets, old & new NY Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles, Washington Nationals, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, Florida Marlins, Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs) and can now cross off another 3 from the list after this trip (Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds and a second trip to the Detroit Tigers).
As many of you blog followers and friends know, I am NOT a fan of baseball. At all. So why, you might ask, did I go on this trip? I’m still not entirely sure. The boys and John really wanted Timmy to come along on the trip and in order for him to do that, I had to go too. 3 kids in a ballpark, hotels, and car for hours on end at 10 and 4 probably not so doable on your own. So I went. Begrudgingly. And those of you who are my FB friends know exactly how much I just LOVED the trip (coughcough). The boys sure had a great time though and that’s the important part. But I still loathe baseball and no one can make me like it. So there.
After driving what seemed like 100 years, we arrived in Pittsburgh in just enough time to check into the hotel (which was really nice btw), throw our stuff in our adjoining rooms and walk the few blocks to the baseball stadium. The walk over was really nice and they had the bridge closed off so it was foot traffic only.
I brought the camera (duh) but forgot the freakin Kindle back at the hotel room. Still couldn’t make me watch the game though! John got really good field level seats for all 5 of us for just about the cost of one ticket at Citi.
Boys and statue of Roberto Clemente who Jack wrote a report on this year, so I actually knew who he was.
Ralph Kiner’s hands or something…I have no idea what the deal was with this, but they wanted a picture there.
This was the beer inning apparently. (John says there’s something for every inning for the boys. Food, ice cream, bathroom, shopping, snack etc). I guess it was his turn.
I didn’t like the shirt I was wearing (especially after 8+ hrs of wearing it in the car) so John bought me a baseball shirt. The shirt’s nice and I like the sewn on letters. Other than that, here’s my feeling on baseball:
Any confusion?
Took a self portrait of Timmy and me in every park.
Timmy looks like I felt in this picture. He was actually very happy the whole game (especially after getting his “guy”) but I think he was just tired.
The boys were having a great time. Baseball is SO their thing.
The view from the stadium was really nice with the moon hanging over by the foul pole (see, I know something).
The Pirates lost (ok, I just had to yell into the den and ask John and the boys who won cause I was paying no attention to the game). We all walked back to the hotel and went to sleep, getting ready for our next day’s ride to Cincinnati with a night game the next night. Oh, joy.
More to come on the trip… (we have parts 2-5 to go, stay tuned).

6 for Saturday
1. Been a crazy week with no immediate relief in sight. Once this week is over, I will have done 7 shoots including travelling to Ossining, Islip, Scarsdale and East Hampton. Well, at least they are all in NY.
2. Jack broke his palate expander this week. Yes, already. He’s been sticking his tongue between the roof of his mouth and the expander and pushing down. So hard that he not only dislodged the whole thing but actually broke the expander from one of it’s metal bands. The orthodonist said that he had NEVER seen that happen before. Well, I guess the kid has a strong tongue cause all he does is exercise it. By talking. All the time.
3. The boys all went to the Mets game Thursday night and Timmy fell asleep in the car on the way home around 10:30pm. I figured I’d just let him sleep and put him to bed in his shirt and sweatpants that he wore to the game. Well, after waking up Friday morning and saying (with a big smile) “Hey! I sleeped in my clothes last night!” he then asked if he could wear the same shirt all day Friday. So he did. (don’t judge. It’s summer and he’s just going to get dirtier anyway). So by the end of the day yesterday after being at the boys baseball camp and playing in the dirt/berries/grass and then at the boys baseball practice and playing in the same dirt/berries/grass, the child looked like a street urchin. A shower fixed him all up. Well, except for the scratches all over his face from various summer fun.
4. Looks like I will be joining all the boys on this year’s annual baseball trip. On the agenda: Cincinnatti, Pittsburgh, Clevland, and Detroit. Uh huh. Great.
If there’s anyone out there who has good places of interest (read: good places to take pictures) in any of those locations, please leave me a comment or shoot me an email. I have to have something to do. Or, if you live in any of those locations and you’d like a bsquared photoshoot, email me at bbeyrer1@optonline.net. It’ll be in early August.
5. The boys told me I had bad road rage today. They do speak the truth. Just freakin drive!!! Is it really that hard??
6. The big boys had their last day of baseball camp yesterday (until I sign them up for another weeklong camp in a few weeks). Here are some shots from the day (you can see the only slightly dirty Timmy, it got much worse later).

baseball bedlam
It’s everywhere…
My friend Lois came down from CT last night for a sushi dinner and a photography lesson. We had a great time and I really hope she learned something inbetween us catching up and laughing. She’s so sweet and a regular blog stalker so she brought the boys some awesome baseball cookies (which were devoured minutes after the pictures were taken). Thanks, Lois!! They loved them!
We are at a fever pitch level (pun intended) with baseball around here. John took all the boys to a Brooklyn Cyclones game last night, they’ve had baseball camp every morning this week (and next week too) , a travel team practice Monday night and an away game tonight.
I’m so behind in editing, processing orders, cleaning the house…everything. New pictures coming soon. And my shoot today for another highschool friend who’s back ‘home’ from St. Louis is in limbo with the weather.
Hope everyone is having a good day.

6 for saturday
1. Feeling absolutely SO totally overwhelmed lately and realizing that there are not nearly enough hours in the day to get even half of what needs to get done, done. And going to that bad place where you can’t even figure out where to start as there is just so much to do. Need to breathe.
2. Realized that since I’ve been so busy that I haven’t really taken any pictures of the boys where there wasn’t an event. Just taken out the camera and started snapping away at home. So I did. We got a 15 minute break in the rain so went outside to take a few.
It’s quite a look, dontcha think?
3. About 20 minutes after taking these, Timmy took a header down the ramp at my parent’s apartment building while running at full speed and hitting a patch of sand at the bottom. He scraped his nose and lip really good and was all scabbed up for a while. But these were favorites all taken with the 135mm L lens. Yum.
4. If it keeps raining, I’m going to really seriously and totally lose my mind. And I’m not even kidding. So glad we put in a brand new inground sprinkler system (that has not turned on once since installation 3 weeks ago) and paid for the beach and country clubs for the summer. What summer, I ask you??
5. The boys made it to the playoffs (to the 3rd round) for Little Leauge this year and I was so happy that I actually made one game that I could watch! I left Timmy with my parents and got to see Jack pitch and both of them hit singles. There are tons of pictures below to make up for all the games I missed this year! Unfortunately, they lost but they played really well (and bummed I missed the game where Jack pitched 3 innings, 2 of which were no-hitters!) and they left pretty happy with what they accomplished this year. They will also be playing on a travel team this summer as well as doing a 2 week baseball camp and playing in the Summer SandLot games too. It’s all baseball, all the time here. Funny, but you know how I loathe baseball normally? I actually like watching them play!
6. All of my shoots today except for one rescheduled. I had one family reschedule cause the baby has one rainbow colored black eye, and the other family was going to be an extended family shoot where everyone was coming in from DC and Atlanta. The DC contingent made it, but due to the crappy weather (of course) the Atlanta family flew out, made it to N. Carolina where they circled til they ran out of fuel and landed right back in Atlanta instead of LaGuardia. Heading up to Conneticut to visit Robin and drop off a crib to her and then over 2 towns to a shoot for a highschool friend and her family.
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend and that it dosen’t rain. Again.

five for friday
A week or two ago (who remembers) I did a Ten for Tuesday post. I missed Tuesday, so now it’s a five for Friday instead…
1. swine flu- still don’t know where I stand on this one. One minute I’m all “it’s just the flu and no one really seems that bad off with it” and the next minute it’s more like “omg, we’re all gonna die and life is going to be exactly like The Stand by Stephen King”. So that’s where I’m at with the swine flu. It’s a minute to minute thing. What do you think?
2. I’m almost caught up with editing shoots. But by the time I am, it’ll be time for the next batch this weekend. Love being busy though, I get so much more done.
3. Been watching reruns of Sex and the City. Love that show.
4. I am more lost than ever with LOST. Love it, but so freakin confused.
5. The boys have been doing great at baseball and are having lots of fun with it. Jack pitched 3 innings at a recent game and struck out 8 of 9 players. It’s really hard going to their games cause the field they play at is bug city (gross) and Timmy is always into something else, so it’s not like I’m watching much even when I am there. But I did go and got some great pictures.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
