    welcome home wrigley!

After a way long day yesterday, which included a flat tire on the way to the airport to get the puppy, she’s finally home with us and seems to be settling in. The story so far..

I was supposed to meet Becky (who is the woman who flies all over the world to pick up and delivery animals to their new homes. When I first spoke to her on the phone, she asked if she could call me back soon as she was on her way to pick up a cat in Germany. So not a conversation I’d ever have in my lifetime!) at LaGuardia at 11:45am to get Wrigley. But on my way I got a big fat flat tire right on the GCP. So not good. Thank goodness for On Star- they sent a tow truck (because you aren’t legally allowed to change a tire on the parkway) and took me over to RedLine Tires where they took excellent care of me and got me on my way super quick with a brand new tire. Even made a nice new friend, Luz the receptionist there who was fantastic and super helpful.

Finally made it to the airport, met Becky, got Wrigley who was more than slightly freaked out. Sat and slept in the carrier on the way back home. And has been loved up by the boys (and me) ever since. No accidents in the house so far (so hoping it keeps up) and she slept from about 11:30pm until around 4:30am when I took her out. And then back to sleep until almost 8am. It would be fantastic if this all lasted! The trainer is coming tonight to get us set up and her first vet appointment is on Friday.

A few pictures from our first day.

So you get an idea of her size. And ignore all the wet soppy towels. That’s from our washing machine breaking/flooding the kitchen earlier this week. A new one was installed today. I’d say it lasting for at least 17 years was a really good run but as ridiculous as it is I’m a little sad about it dying. It always did a great job, saw us thru 3 babies and probably literally TONS of laundry.

Between the washing machine, the flat tire, the puppy and all of her assorted costs- I’m hemorrhaging money this week.

She looooooves chasing Timmy around. He couldn’t be happier with that either!

Ok, gotta go take her out again. Working on client pictures this week so expect to see a few new blog posts.

we got a puppy for Christmas!!

This will either be the greatest thing or the stupidest mistake I ever made. Time will tell. (and John is definitely on the side of stupidest mistake ever). So here’s our puppy girl Wrigley who will be making her grand New York debut at the end of the first week of January. She’s an English Golden Retriever, born in early November in Missouri.

    Are you saying “awwwwwww” yet?

Here’s how it happened: So after photographing a zillion families this year and seeing how many of my repeat clients got dogs since our last year’s sessions, and the boys asking me for a dog for years and years, and doing this session and falling a little in love, it was suddenly inevitable that we’d be getting a puppy. If you know me at all, you know that once I get an idea in my head, I MUST have that thing happen like 5 minutes ago. I asked my friend/client Jeanne (the owner of the english golden in the linked shoot above) for her breeder. The breeder was expecting 2 litters in November, with puppies available in February. I got on her list but I was already pretty far down. As it turned out, the first litter didn’t yield enough puppies for everyone on the list and the second litter was miscarried. So sad. I was totally obsessed at this point and HAD TO HAVE a puppy. Immediately. So after a ton of research, I found another breeder (this time in Missouri) with a litter due in early November with room on the waiting list. I decided I was definitely getting a girl puppy- with the ridiculous number of boys in this house, I thought it was time to have a little more pink in my life. The puppies were born and a week ago the breeder chose puppies for each family on her list. I asked for the sweetest, most mellow, easily trainable, creamiest puppy she had and we got “Ms. Pink” (how appropriate!). I’ve been stalking the poor breeder for as many pictures as possible. Wrigley would be ready to come home to us this week but with Christmas and vacation, we figured after the Regis interviews would be better timing. With January thru March being my really slow time with work I can spend lots of time with her.

I already have her signed up for puppy kindergarten, and have already met with a trainer (who is coming back for a minimum of 3 sessions once Wrigley is here), have a vet and managed to purchase all the supplies- all without the boys finding out a single thing! We surprised them on Christmas Eve after dinner at my in laws. Here’s how it went down:

I bought a tag (etsy!), collar and leash along with a pink stuffed puppy. Jen (who has been the biggest supporter of my puppy-mania. We know that Wrigley and her golden retriever Holly will be BFF’s just like Timmy and Jack are, and Jen and I are!) bought this adorable frame (thanks Jen!)and I put the pictures I got from the breeder in it.

We assembled the boys in the den for the big surprise. Opening…Not really getting it…Still totally confused…Got it.Just a little happy!

I’m under absolutely no illusions that this dog will be my responsibility no matter how much they claim that they will help. And it’s going to make traveling a little challenging, as well as heading to the beach this summer. But with the help of friends (Uncle Nelson is super excited to puppy sit!) and family I think it’s doable. I know it’ll be a ton of work for quite a while, but I’m really excited to have a little puppy girl in the house to keep me company all day. And if people who work all day (like 8-9 hrs 5 days a week) can do it and have happy, well behaved puppies then I think I can manage too. Right??!? So prepare yourself for a ridiculous amount of puppy pictures on the blog (yup, I’m going to be that girl!) starting in early January.

Hope you all have a wonderful, magical Christmas with family and friends and tons of blessings and love!!

    the wynn family

So excited to see this little guy and his family again this year, but so sad that this beach is probably no longer looking like this after Sandy. I know all the homes in the area (Bay Park) were pretty damaged with the storm surge and the sewage plant issues that followed. At any rate, Mr. G is one of my most favorite newborn sessions and it’s great to see him getting so big. And their puppy too!

    the nevi family

A quick session for Timmy’s BFF (who’s Mom also happens to be one of my BFF’s) and his family, including their dog Holly. Who has the be the most patient pup I’ve ever seen. Ever. And I just realized that my blog is becoming dog central. So many sessions this year with dogs included in the family sessions. I’m loving it!

And back to editing for me.

    emily & nate

Emily contacted me a while back to let me know her husband Nate would be home on R&R from active duty in Southeast Asia (*edited to add: I mistakenly wrote Nate was deployed to Afghanistan. I get numerous calls from military families and guess I just mixed up his location, sorry). She found me thru Operation Love Reunited, but OpLove doesn’t include R&R in their free sessions so I decided to just do this session for them on me. Really, it’s the least I could do to thank him (& Emily) for his service! We met up at the Garden City Cathedral grounds for a mini session with their dog Webster.

Love these two shots- favorites for sure.
Webster is still a puppy (and the longest, all legs and tail puppy I’ve ever seen! Oh, and tongue.) and has the craziest amount of energy, but comes right over when called. And smiles for the camera.)Oh, hello pretty.
