disney days 2012 {part 1}
Being that I just booked our Disney trip for 2013 yesterday (yup, already) I figured it was time to start posting some of the shots from this year’s trip. They are all snapshots- nothing spectacular this year. I really needed to be on vacation and in the moment w the boys so I left the big guns home and just took the Fuji x100. Which is a fabulous camera and you can shoot amazing stuff with- but I just went the easy snapshot route this trip. That, and the iphone.
The first part of the trip included a really fun Jetblue guy (he was director of ground operations or something official like that) who came up to us in the airport and asked the boys if they wanted to be in charge of checking the boarding passes for the flight. Cool, right?
Then the flight- which is my least favorite part of the vacation, but getting to Disney on the Magical Express and breathing in the Disney air (yes, it is actually different air there) makes it all worthwhile.
Started our first full day at Magic Kingdom with breakfast at Crystal Palace. Yum. I wait all year for this breakfast- it’s the best!!
More tomorrow with pictures of our meetup with our good friends! Stay tuned!

a little company
It’s always nice to have visitors in the office when I’m working away.
Especially such a cute visitor, who fits perfectly on the “timmy sized couch”.
And life in bsquaredville: Off to shoot a wedding this weekend (can’t wait!), you’ll find some of the RVC Ed Foundation photos in this weeks RVC Herald (or so I’m told, cause I never get it!), working on opening up the bsquared calendar for May-August this coming week or the next one so be on the lookout for that, and working on a new edition of the bsquared newsletter (so if you haven’t yet signed up for the newsletter, feel free to do so with the newsletter tab on the left side of the blog). Also I have a new cover photo for the bsquared facebook page (link above) if you haven’t checked that out. Can’t believe I’m up to 901 likes over there so thanks everyone! And still need to post the ‘about me’ blurb. I need about 10 more hours a day! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

off camera flash with pete
Another one of my photografriends was nice enough to help me out with my continuing education on off camera flash. He was quite the reluctant model, but a very patient and great teacher. Pete even came with me to the event I shot on Saturday night to help out ‘on site’ so to speak, so I could put everything I’ve been learning into actual practice.
So here’s what I did with my new knowledge. And a shout out to another photografriend Charles who held a flash he was selling just for me. Cause you know I have to have a collection of stuff.
Shoot thru umbrella.
A little flashflare. While in mid sentence. Sorry about that but the flare was cool so I had to post. I love that you can see the wine, and all kinds of battery packs, boxes from the new purchases and just the general mess that ensued. Learning is messy.Attempting to mix ambient light with off camera flash.A little silhouette with rim light. I’m a total sucker for rim light- it’s my favorite! He looks like a magician. Brightening up the front side a little and then a little more. Pete looks just thrilled, huh?
Can’t wait to try out some of my newfound knowledge for my upcoming events and on some sessions. (Don’t worry- my pictures are still primarily going to be natural light as they always have been but it’s nice not being totally in the dark with off camera flash (see what I did there?) and can only be a helpful tool to work with and add a little something extra to your bsquared sessions.)

going bald for a great cause
After yesterday’s post about our beloved Mario the barber retiring, I figured this would be a good follow up.
The boys have all signed up for St. Baldricks this year (second year for Jack & Patrick, first year for Timmy). For those of you who aren’t familiar with St. Baldrick’s, they are the biggest fundraising organization funding kids cancer research. Once you sign up as a participant, you get your head shaved at an event to show your support for kids with cancer, while raising money to help find a cure. Here are before, during & after shots of the boys from last year’s event. You can find last year’s St. Baldricks full blog post here.
If you’d like to help support Team Beyrer (they’ve set their fundraising goal at $1,000 but I hope that they can exceed it- especially since they are more than half way there) in their shaving of the heads/finding a cure for kids cancer, you can find their page here: http://www.stbaldricks.org/teams/mypage/76779/2012 . Simply click the make a donation button and donate anything from $1 and up. They’d love your support!!

the end of an era
We were SO sad to learn of Mario’s retirement earlier this month. Mario has been cutting the boys hair since all of their very first haircuts and John’s since he was in high school. He’s off to a whole new life in Florida and we are all so, so sad to see him go. The man has the patience of a saint. He would never flinch or bat an eye when the big boys were babies and would scream bloody murder the entire time they were getting haircuts. That went on for about a year before the stopped crying like someone was cutting off their arms instead of their hair. But Mario never minded- he was always so calm and nice no matter how loud they screamed. He would let Timmy spray him with the water bottle, stand up in the chair with the blowdryer -all to keep him happy while he was cutting his hair. When I told the boys that their beloved Mario was retiring, there were definitely tears shed (from me, too) and Timmy said he never wanted anyone else to cut his hair, ever and cried a river of tears. Break my heart, kid.
A bad scan of the boys first haircut scrapbook page. They were okay the first time, it was every.single.time after that there was hysterics.
How are we ever going to find someone else to cut their hair??? Any local recommendations?
