    swimmy timmy

There’s a photographer that I really admire and love all of her work. So this was my attempt to do a styled shoot inspired by her work. And, Timmy really had a great time so it was fun for both of us.

A big thank you goes out to Aunt Ivy for the pool loan, Clare and Tammy for the flipper loans. It was a group effort.

Ok, did any of my blog stalkers ever see the documentary movie about Dogtown & Z-boys? I totally think Timmy looks like the b/w pictures of Jay Adams as a kid. Except minus the whole future ex-con thing. Doin the butt dance. A perfect ending (ha, ending– get it? sorry. I think I’m a little slaphappy from editing for hours on end.) And one little announcement…I have one MINI session available tomorrow, Friday 9/30 at 4pm at Tanglewood Preserve. Email me or leave a comment below if you are interested.

    goodbye summer

So today being the first full day of fall, I figured I should probably post my end of summer pictures before its like November.

Just some shots of the boys and their friends at the beach club toward the end of the summer.

It was so overcast, humid and almost misty at the beach that day. So you’ll see the pictures get a little fuzzier as the day goes on. However, they were all taken with my newly fixed 70-200 lens that I’m so happy is finally sharp!!I taught Timmy how to boogie board this summer. So glad I did- he loved it!!!Stupid rats with wings. But, the lens is nice and sharp!!
Uncle Nelson torturing Jack and then falling into the hole that the boys dug earlier. Man, I miss the summer. A lot. Missing the lack of schedule, lazy days and beach & pool. A really lot.

Well, happy fall. (and I still have one more summery personal session to post so there will be one last glimpse of summer here on the blog coming soon).

    6 for Sunday

Don’t know if I have enough to make it to 6, but I’ll give it a try.

    1. We had a hurricane. Timmy was all prepared. I mean, really. What else could you need besides a pair of comfy Star Wars pj’s, an industrial size vat of pretzels and a pair of flippers? Hurricane preparedness? He’s got it.

    2. And then after the hurricane (like a few days after) when it was just a little rainy, we lost power. So, we had hail, an earthquake, a hurricane and we lose power from a little rain. Yeah, I don’t get it either.

    3. Due to the stupid hurricane, the boys got totally ripped off out of their birthday party. I felt so bad for them. We were going to have a few friends to the country club for swimming and cake but Irene came and then the club was closed down for a few days. Perhaps the giant tree across the entire entrance to the pool was a problem. And their BFF was coming from Michigan and would have been at the party, but then they cancelled their trip due to the hurricane too. So no birthday party 🙁  John did take them, Timmy and 2 friends (Johnny and Liam) to the Mets game that night and then they slept over. Well, not exactly slept but they were over until 11am the next day.

    4. Had a great time yesterday at Heather and Andy’s wedding (my sister in law’s sister). It was so nice to be a guest instead of a photographer. It was a super fun place (a beer garden) and some people who will remain nameless were overserved. Didn’t even bring the camera, all pix from the iphone. And photobooth.

    5. I miss the beach and the summer. It got cold so fast and I’m not ready. The wrist warmers are not far from coming back out.

    6. I know I’ve mentioned it a few times, but REALLY this time- the fabulous new frames I’ll be offering will be on the blog this week. And a frame giveaway is coming too- so stay tuned!! Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

    10 for Tuesday

    Another tuesday, another tenfor.

    1. So Sunday was my 42nd birthday. And after 10 years of my birthday being on 9/11 (ok, my birthday has always been on 9/11 but not THE 9/11) I have to say that it hasn’t gotten any better. Spent the morning and into the early afternoon watching the memorial on TV (I cannot not watch it.) and crying. Saw my friend and babysitter Liz reading the names at the memorial to honor her father and uncle who were both lost on that horrible day. Saw the names of many RVC residents, many of which I knew, went to school with, know the families. And the whole day just sucks. All I remember is the fear, the incomprehensible events of the whole day, the not knowing when it was going to end, and the mayor saying the loss of life would be ‘more than any of us can bear’. Watching people fall to their deaths. Not lost. Murdered. So, it’s impossible for me to get happy that day. I think after 10 years of trying to enjoy my birthday (a day which I loved until 10 years ago) is obviously a fruitless effort. A lot of people say that a birthday is a bright light on an otherwise horrible day. I disagree- there is no light that day. I decided next year I will be celebrating my birthday on 9/13. And if it was legally possible to change your birthday, I would.

    2. Now that I depressed you (sorry), moving on to the good part of the birthday. Presents! Looky what I got!! (the amazing Tiffany purse is from John- the guy is on a roll lately with the great presents!- thank you JohnnyB!!, the camera is from me to…me!, and the little tin of candy sushi was made by my friend Beth and her son Stephen- super cute!) Oh, and the frame which coincidently matches the Tiffany box and bag is a little sneak preview for you of some of the custom frames I’ll be offering starting next week!

    3. So the new camera is a 5d mark ii. And as my friend Kate would say… “I’m a smitten kitten”! All the better to take your picture with my dears. And really, how cute is that bag!?!

    4. The big boys are playing on 3 different teams this fall. Middle school football (their first time playing), Little League fall baseball, and an NJBL travel team. And wow, the schedule is just overwhelming. I’m not sure how this is going to work out for them and when they’ll have time to do homework or eat some nights. But if we see that school is suffering from all the activities, something will have to go. Should be an interesting fall, huh?

    5. For those of you who’s bsquared sessions are still coming up, you’ll be getting a new little add on in your order bags. A little brochure with all my new product offerings in it. I also found a new iphone case maker that you can design yourself today. So be on the lookout for those being offered soon too! Christmas is coming, afterall.

    6. Been doing some shopping for the house and for the business (and sometimes the two kinda run into eachother) and have gotten some super cool new stuff.

New pottery barn coffee table (and another little sneak peek of the custom frames in the background)

New pillows and blankets. (I’m sure some of the blankets will make their way into a newborn shoot or two)An old bread bowl. Again, can’t you just see the little baby all smooshed up in there with some nice squishy blankets?Old rangefinder cameras. Going to get them cleaned up and try them out. Should be interesting and I can’t wait to try to shoot with film!

    7. Heard a great quote yesterday about photography. It’s a camera, not a magic wand. Love!! (the bunny has nothing to do with anything, but he’s cute)

    8. So you know how I have that Edward Norton thing, right? My cousin emailed me the other day to let me know that his movie 25th hour (which I love!) was playing in NYC on Sunday evening. With an appearance by the man himself. Yes, Edward Norton live and in person. And I couldn’t go. Didn’t want to go into NYC on 9/11. Ridiculous? Maybe. Did I blow my shot at meeting him? Possibly. I’m convinced it will happen some day. Any help available from any of you blog stalkers?

    9. Today is picture day at Timmy’s school and I bought a package. The pictures are usually pretty bad but I feel too guilty not to buy them. I just get the lowest package, but I hate doing it.

    10. Have some fun & styled shoots (of my own kids anyway) coming up on the blog soonish. Stay tuned. (the flowers don’t have anything to do with anything either. but i hate posting without pictures)

    Have a great Tuesday everyone!

    and they’re off {back to school}

After a really fantastic summer, I was actually pretty sad this morning to send the boys off to school. I decided this summer that there would be no camps, no schedules, no ‘real’ activities other than the beach and pool. It could’ve gone either way, but it ended up being fantastic. I feel like they’ll only be able to do this once or twice in their lives so I thought we’d make the most of it while we can. And it was seriously great! Sleeping late was really nice, too! As was the Carvel pretty much every night.

But all that came to a screeching halt this morning, getting up at 7am (ugh), making lunches and getting everyone to school. They are all looking forward to a great year with the big boys in 7th and Timmy in 1st. Its nice for them all not to be the littlest fish in the pond this year.

They all look so big. Waaaaa!

The big boys both had nice schedules with good teachers and some friends in their classes. I think they’re looking forward to seeing a bunch of their 6th grade friends in their school this year. They’ll be playing on two baseball teams this fall (one travel, one town), the school football team, they will be in religion, doing a bunch of community service, want to join Jazz band, Patrick wants to start a school newspaper, homework, etc. It’s going to be a busy one! And Timmy going off to 1st grade? Unreal! He has Mrs. Powers who I just adore and know he’ll have a fantastic year with her! Patrick had her for first grade and we all thought she was wonderful and Timmy’s so excited to have her. Plus, his BFF Jack is in his class along with Ms. McClain (Jack’s nurse). Really, can’t get much better than that! Oh, and we’re trying a new lunchbox for Timmy this year to help be a little more green. The Goodbyn is pretty cool and Timmy was excited to use it. Maybe he’ll eat his whole lunch! (one can hope). His backpack was pretty heavy with the lunch, water bottle and school supplies- he was having a bit of a problem standing upright. The house is eerily quiet and I miss my boys. However, the beds are all made, counters wiped down, dishwasher emptied and reloaded, already one load of laundry washed, dried and folded (with more to go…always), phone calls made and returned, emails answered and sent, house picked up and grocery list ready for me to hit the stupid market. And it’s not even 10:30am! I forgot I could be so efficient!

I can’t wait for them to get home so I can hear all about it!
