    A 60th surprise party

I was asked to take pictures at a 60th surprise party yesterday. What a fun bunch of people, and I know the birthday girl was very, very surprised! Everyone couldn’t have been nicer and easier to work with. The woman who asked me to photograph the even was unfortunately not able to come to the party as her kids are sick with the croup. What a big bummer, huh? Well, E, I hope the pictures make up for missing the party a little bit and I hope the kids are feeling much better. It was a great party all around, and "e"’s husband couldn’t have been any more accommodating-he was trying his best to make me take home food from the party! It seemed like everyone was so thrilled to be there to help the birthday girl celebrate. A very tight knit group of family and friends- so nice to see.

Here are a few from the day, the rest are in an album to the left. Click on any image to see bigger. 60th_silparty_059x 60th_silparty_069x 60th_silparty_225x

    Robin’s Bridal Shower

Was a lot of fun AND I got to take pictures, too! It was at a really nice restaurant in Stamford, Conneticut in a private upstairs party room. Only 22 guests but a nice bunch (with some really awesome Irish accents thrown in). Robin’s future mother-in-law is a total rip. On the way out, she pretended to jump on the back of some random guy’s Harley. I think she freaked him out! Robin and Joe got a lot of really nice gifts and although Robin reeeealy dislikes being the center of attention, she really tolerated it very well. Other than the few dirty looks I got while taking LOTS of pictures, that is. It was also so nice to finally meet the other two girls from the wedding party (Robin’s future sisters-in-law) who really set up the whole shower. Had a great time, and I got to escape from the house for the whole day. Bonus!Robins_shower_050sc Robins_shower_061rccbw Robins_shower_098sc Robins_shower_104sc

    a 95th birthday party

Yesterday I did a photoshoot at a 95th birthday party for a friend of a friend’s grand-mother-in-law. It was such a pleasure to meet the "birthday girl". Let me tell you, this woman still had it all together. She was sweet as anything and didn’t look 95 at all. Maybe 75. Maybe. She was so kind and easy going. Unfortunately, she leads a very limited existence due to being almost blind and very hard of hearing. But she is still quite chipper and happy. She knew exactly what kind of picture she wanted of herself- a "mona lisa smile, certainly not a laughing smile". Her one remaining sibling surprised her by flying up from Florida for the party and she was so happy to see him.

The daughter of the "birthday girl" who arranged the party had everyone dress in white and khaki. It looked really cute with everyone dressed the same. There were a zillion kids (great-grandkids) so the pictures were crazy-getting everyone together at the same time. But I got some good ones I think.

I am still in the middle of post-processing all 450+ pictures I took for the day, but here are a few to startFish95party_037sc Fish95party_170sc Fish95party_218sc Fish95party_107sc

    a 70th birthday photoshoot

Over the past weekend I was booked to do a photoshoot for a fabulous family who was celebrating the dad’s 70th birthday. Everyone was so amazingly nice and just a total pleasure to work with. Tons of kids there (which I loved) and I knew a few of the families that were there helping to celebrate. The dad was honestly very surprised and looked pretty shell-shocked (but thrilled) during the time I was there. His kids put together a great slide show of his life to date and I got some great shots of him and the rest of the party watching it. Here are a few of my favorites from the day. All the pictures are in an album on the left side called the M/P party. Click on any picture to view larger.

And thank you Mrs. P, I mean Colleen, for the opportunity to work with your wonderful family. I hope you like them!Powers_023sc Powers_041rc Powers_053rc Powers_174sc Powers_163rccbw Powers_235sc Powers_267sc Powers_333sc Powers_338sccbw

    family BBQ

Every year, Uncle Dick and Aunt Cathy arrange a family fishing trip out of Pt.Lookout. This is the 30th year. And afterward, everyone goes back to their house for a nice BBQ with all the family. And there are a lot of em! This year the fishing segment was not so well attended as in the past. Last year’s trip was a little ummm….eventful. Everyone on the boat spent the day puking. I mean the whole day. Apparently, they went out into the ocean fishing and it was extremely choppy. It was the big boys 1st year going and they were kinda nervous about throwing up. I gave them some tips on what to do if they started feeling sea-sick (look at the horizon, stay outside, etc)and sent them with a change of clothes, just in case. The funny thing was that they and their Uncle Joe were the ONLY ONES who didn’t throw up out of around 30 people on the boat. John was so sick and didn’t get off the rail of the boat the whole time. The boys were laughing at him as he was throwing up. Nice. And Patrick caught a fish, but no one got a picture (even though John had a camera) cause they were all too busy puking. So it is like a real fish story.

Anyway, this year John opted out of the fishing part (hence the boys did not go either) because of last year’s fiasco, but we heard it was not as bad this year. Only one person puked, but not much action on the fish. But a lot of the family made it to the BBQ and we had a great time at that. The kids (big and little) played baseball in the street, there were bagpipes, bicycles, and there were babies, grandparents, cousins galore. We even ran into one of the boys friends from school who lives in the neighboorhood for the summer. I took the boys down to the beach (2 blocks away) for some pictures before it got dark. Then they chased lighting bugs after it did. We didn’t get home til after 10:30pm (Timmy was a real trooper and had a great time, even when tired. He kept asking for "how bout mores birthday party?"). It was great to see everyone. Here are a few of the zillion pictures I took. I think everyone is getting used to me with the camera all the time. I don’t mean they LIKE it or anything, just used to it.
