The Turn in NYC (rehearsal & shoot)
I was invited along with my favorite band to capture them during rehearsal for the BIG show and to get some cityscape shots of them as well.
So I got to spend the majority of my day last Monday with the band, which is always fun. And got to listen to them practice for the show (you HAVE to come…it’s going to be incredible!!!). We’ve worked up some new 5×7 cards for them recently to promote the show:
Listening to them play and hearing how the show will come together is so awesome and interesting. Like the studio, it’s so fun being on the ‘inside’. However, I now always have my earplugs in my camera bag- it gets SO loud in that little room! I can still totally hear what they are playing and saying, but I can still leave without leaving my eardrums behind. Yes, I know. I am Old.
I also got to meet the drummer and bass player who will be playing with Brian and Pat in the BIG show who were very nice and very talented. I don’t think they knew quite what to make of me.
You know how I love my screaming shots of Brian.
I almost forgot how different it is photographing them when they are not acoustic. There’s much more movement and no sitting.
Did some shots on an NYC rooftop. Let me preface this part by saying that the wind was whipping (so much so that it kept knocking my flash over while mounted on the camera in the vertical position) and it was freakin freezing outside. A few times, I thought we were all going right over the side of the 37th floor!! It was way too cold and windy to stay out too long so we only shot a few.
Then got some inside. I’d like to think that it is me that is really funny and the reason for the laughing in the pictures, but actually Brian seems to crack both himself and Pat up during our shoots. Whatever works! Jeez, handsome much boys?
I know I say it in every post about The Turn, but I am so, so proud of them and the progress they are making. They are such good people and I adore being their friend/groupie/photographer!
I’d better see you all at the show rockin the Turn!!!

The Turn: The December Sessions
As you probably already know, The Turn will be putting on a big show on April 18th at Madison Hall in Rockville Centre. The show is in part to promote their new CD, The December Sessions. The CD is awesome (and you can listen to it here: http://www.myspace.com/rocktheturn.
The guys enlisted me to help design the CD artwork (that was fun!). Brian took the picture on the front, my picture is on the back. We worked hard putting it together with lots of ‘meetings’ here at my computer. I can’t wait to see the finished product!
The Turn rehearsed last night for the big show, and I was asked to tag along for some pictures. And I got a little preview of what the big show will be like- it’s gonna be great!!! Then, we braved the whipping wind and cold (barely. I thought it was spring!) up on an NYC rooftop for some pictures too.
Look for a post soon with the new pictures.
If you haven’t yet, get your tickets to the big show (I promise you won’t be dissapointed). You can get them by calling Brian at 516.458.7299. See you there!!

The Turn & St. Baldricks
There is a national organization called St. Baldricks that benefits children with cancer. From their website: “St. Baldrick’s is the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research. Thousands of volunteers shave their heads in solidarity of children with cancer, while requesting donations of support from friends and family.”
Immediately following the RVC St. Patrick’s Parade, a St. Baldrick’s fundraiser was held at the local parish center. Eric (who has appeared here on the bsquared blog a number of times in the past and who is Brian of The Turn’s big brother) volunteered to be a shavee, and I was asked along to document the whole process.
I already thought that Eric was a great guy with a big heart, but doing this just proved that all the more. This is a cause that is very close to both Brian and Eric’s hearts (not to mention their dad, Geoff, who unfortunately couldn’t be there that day no matter how much he wanted to. Hopefully the pictures will be as close to being there as possible.). Their mom, Lynn, passed away from cancer when they were very young. This was a wonderful tribute to her memory and further proof of what good boys she raised.
Eric signed in but we were told there was a VERY long wait, so we ran over to Kookaburra Coffee Co. in town. This is where Brian and Eric have their office and spend a LOT of time. Everyone there was pretty excited to hear about what Eric was about to do.
After quite a while, it was finally Eric’s turn. And the shaving of the giant, thick mop of hair on his head commenced.
The before and after. And the during and after (they take that hair down LOW). And also the remains of the after. That’s a lot of hair!
While Eric was under the razor, Brian was watching on and totally teared up. And then when Eric was finished… Well, I felt a little like I was invading a moment here, but it was so special between super close brothers and I knew their Dad would want to see it, so I snapped it. I know their mom was looking over them and was as proud as a mom could be (yeah, crying a little myself right now … and I know you are too).
After chatting with the volunteers and showing them his new look, they wanted to head back to Kookaburra (Eric couldn’t seem to stop touching his “new” head!) where everyone had a look and couldn’t resist touching it too.

The Turn at bbq inc.
Went out with some friends for dinner last Friday night and then to see the band. Couldn’t help but take some shots of The Turn.
Want to take a second to say how proud I am of Brian and Pat- how far they have come over the last year since we first met, what good people they are, and how ridiculously talented they are. Their new CD comes out in a few weeks (we are working hard on the cover art) and it is SOOOOOO good. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it!
Being their groupie photographer is so much fun. I can’t wait to photograph them playing the Garden! Someday soon…
In the meantime, they are playing The Big Show at Madison Hall in Rockville Centre on Saturday, April 18th where they are debuting their new CD and hoping to play to a packed house. So if you are local, please come down and show your support and listen to some fantastic music. For tickets, contact Brian at 458.7299. Or you can leave me a comment or shoot me an email and I will get you tickets. Seriously, you have to come (even if you’ve come with me to other Turn shows). You’ll love them.
Ogy (Brian’s brother Eric) will be shaving his head for St. Baldricks (benefiting children with cancer) on Saturday and I will be there to catch it. Look for pictures here soon.
Brian’s dad LOVES listening to them play! Can’t you tell?!
I just love Pat singing. He’s getting better and better. He rocked Lovesong by the Cure here…
My favorite is the screaming shot during “Sex on Fire”.
If you’d like to listen to some Turn, please visit them HERE. Hope to see you at the show!!

weekend recap
Not really a whole lot to recap as not too much went on. Well, I guess that’s not altogether true. The weather still has me in a funk. I don’t feel like it’s ever going to get nice.
Anyway, Friday night I went out to dinner with a bunch of friends who I haven’t been out with in forever and a day. We had some drinks at one of their homes and then went to dinner and to see the band. It was a fun night. Pix on the band later this week as I have some other band-related stuff to post so I’ll do it all at once. Here’s one in the meantime.
Saturday morning had a shoot with a family I’ve worked with several times as they just welcomed a new baby girl. Again, one to tide you over, but more pictures later this week or next after I edit. Pretty and sweet…
Spent some time this weekend over at the park where Timmy played and the boys played some baseball with a neighbor and with John. The season starts soon, so they have been practicing every weekend a little. Got them (barely) to take some pix for me too.
Be ready for some Timmy picture overload this week. Been a snapping fool over the last week and he’s the only one that can still deal with me and my camera.
